An amazing group of members came out to Food For Life for a food sort this week.
In just 90 minutes, 26 volunteers sorted and repacked over 8000lbs of potatoes, boxed skids of fruit and vegetables and repackaged cans and boxes of food- all for distribution to food programs across Halton. That is equivalent to 8,000 meals shared in our community!
Food for Life sources, sorts and shares fresh food in Halton Region. Through the more than 80 Food for Life programs and agencies, they serve more than 13,000 people in our community struggling with hunger each week.
Widowed Friends has been volunteering with Food For Life for almost 3 years and we are very grateful to our members for coming out and helping this great program. We have another food sort planned for Sept 12th (morning) so be sure to sign up early as we will need to limit numbers of volunteers as the Food For Life space is small and can be congested with too many people.
