At the start of a new year many of us make resolutions and plans for all the things we’ll do in the coming year. Some of us stick to our resolutions; others have a hard time remembering what they were a few weeks into the year!

One great way to start off the year is to resolve to try something new at least once or twice in the first few months, to challenge ourselves to find something fun and fulfilling that is a little step out of our comfort zone.  At Widowed Friends, our members have said that coming out to events regularly helps them reconnect with others in a positive, warm, understanding environment. Although getting out and about with others seems easy to most people, it can be very difficult to attend social events alone and without the companionship of a husband or wife who have always been there in the past.  So we understand that it’s hard to take the first few steps to start.

But, taking steps to be a part of a community, whether it’s Widowed Friends or another group of interest to you, sharing time and friendships with people, receiving support from others, finding interest in things we may have forgotten we were interested in, improves our overall well-being. The result is often a more positive outlook on life and a rekindling of interest in exploring a new path and finding opportunities we may not have considered previously.

If you are a widow or widower in the GTA or southern Ontario, why not check us out by attending one of our events?  If you don’t live in this area, check back on this website often or join our Facebook group for updates and inspiration from our community.  Be sure to let us know what you are interested in hearing about by adding your comments to our blog posts.  We’ll look forward to hearing from you or meeting you at an event!
