Grief=Change

Grief=Change

Grief always comes with change. Usually unwanted change, but change nevertheless.  Anyone who has experienced loss knows that change is grief’s close companion, so the question is, how do we manage to live with change and move forward with our lives.

There are lots of theories about resilience after loss, but what we have found at Widowed Friends is that companionship, socializing and sharing time with others goes a long way to helping us find our way from the loneliness, isolation and change that losing a spouse can bring.  It’s not just us saying it either!  There are loads of articles like this  one from Time magazine that discusses the importance of socializing for your health and well being or this one from Help Guide on the benefits of making new friends.

If you are a member and haven’t been out to a Widowed Friends event recently, join us on zoom – we’d love to get reacquainted! If you are a widow or widower thinking of joining us, we’d love to meet you and we hope you’ll enjoy meeting us too!  It will be good for all of us! You can read more about us on this website and find out how to join in the Become a Member section.

In the meantime, here’s a video of Stephen Colbert and Anderson Cooper discussing grief.  It’s not what you normally hear from them, but they both have experienced loss and grief and discuss learning to find gratitude – it is worth a listen (it’s about 20 minutes long).

Let us know if their thoughts resonate with you in the comments below!
